Good hotel with an onsen. Good view of Lake Yunoko from the room. There’s also a raised walking path behind the hotel along the lake. The rooms are reasonably big and their dinner and breakfast are also ok. Their staff are very polite and attentive. However for the price of about USD350 per night ( half board ) it is definitely on the high side.
Had a great time staying in early Feb here as a couple. As it is off season, the small town was rather quiet. Main attraction is the onsen and some short walks, as longer trails were closed due to the snow. There is also a snow sports area next door, but we didn't try it.
First time staying in Kyukamura and am impressed with the hotel. It is perfectly designed to appreciate the hot springs. There are both western style and Japanese style rooms to choose from. Booking was done via Kyukamura website, and it is easy to call to the hotel to confirm the registration. We got a good price (around 30000 jpy+ per night, including breakfast and dinner) as we were travelling off season and due to discount from booking via website. There are many English speaking staff, who were all very polite and helpful. The hotel provides a shuttle bus to the local bus stop from which you can take the public bus to Nikko Station. In all, it takes about 3 hrs to travel from Tokyo.
Futons were comfortable and the room was spacious and clean. We did not have a shower in the room (each room does have a toilet and sink however) but it is not an issue as the public baths are very convenient and clean. It is a great experience to soak in the onsen while snow falls around you.
Meals were excellent. Plenty of food, and every item was delicious. There is an option to purchase a bento for lunch, as there is not much food available in the area.
Will hope to come back again some day.
Good location!! Just aside the lake, and few steps to the ski area. Lovely staff and good service!!
I came here in Winter time. The surface of lake was frozen, Bottom-up ships were full of snow, and just like butter on the cakes. Several snowmen were aside the lake. Wonderful memory!
Hideous and disrespectful. The hotel is in a bad condition and requires a major renovation, to begin with. Once I got here I realized that they actually charge ¥6,000 for a single dinner! (and no, it's not worth it), basically they hold their guests hostages because they know there aren't many options for food, so they take advantage of their guests and charge them for a ridiculous amount of money. Furthermore, there exists a menu with normal prices, but it is only available for those who pre-booked their meals (Of course the sales manager couldn't explain why). So basically, just to have a simple dinner you'll end up paying ¥7,000-¥8,000. A TOURIST TRAP MADE BY THE HOTEL THAT YOU BOOKED AND PAID FOR! DISGRACEFUL!
New and clean facilities, of course Onsen is one of the best. Maybe you wanna add some extra dishes at dinner, English speaking staff will help you. Recommend to bring your own whiskey or wine to drink in the room.
Clean, modern rooms. Excellent sulfur laden hot springs, with both inside and outside baths. Even a clear hot bath if minerals aren't your thing. Dinners and breakfast are both satisfying and tasty. Breakfast is buffet with plenty of Western and Japanese offerings. Dinner is a mix of buffet plus two or three featured courses served by wait staff. The only reason this place doesn't get a five is no WiFi and limited, intermittent and slower cellular.
Lovely hotel with friendly service. The hotel has modern japanese atmosphere. Rooms are beautifully furnish. Foods were excellent. Just step away from the Yumoto track. 7 mins walk from bus station.
The Spa is a sulfur spring, rich in nuance !! Tofu made by the top chef was also nice, it was one of the best in my life.
